What is a Mooncup
What's a mooncup used for?
A mooncup is an alternative sanitary product to pads and tampons that are used during menstrual periods. It is also known as a menstrual cup or a period cup. Just as the name suggests, it takes the shape of a menstrual cup and instead of absorbing menstrual fluid like pads and tampons it collects it. It is two inches long and made of soft medical grade silicone. It is worn internally, but slightly lower than a tampon. It holds around 30ml of menstrual fluid which is three times as much as a tampon can hold and one third of total fluid produced. Once the cup fills, it is emptied, rinsed and reused.
The mooncup comes in two sizes -Size A and Size B. Size A is 46mm wide and 50mm long while Size B is 43mm wide and 50mm long. Size A is meant for women who have given birth vaginally or are over 35 years. Size B on the other hand is used by women who have not given birth or have through a C-section aged 30 and below.
How To Use A MoonCup
The mooncup comes in a flexible design that can be folded for easier insertion into the vagina. Once in the vagina, a light seal is created with the vaginal walls creating a passage for menstrual fluid into the mooncup without any leakages or odor. When full, it can be removed, rinsed and re-inserted for up to 8 hours. It can be used for all occasions whether sleeping, swimming, exercising or travelling. It is comfortable, convenient, eco-friendly and safe.
